HHSME Students Participate in Long Beach Grand Prix

Hawthorne High School of Manufacturing and Engineering proudly announces its participation in the Historic Indy Car Challenge held at the prestigious Long Beach Grand Prix. The event saw vintage Indy cars from the 1970s and 1980s racing around the track in thrilling 20-minute races on both Saturday and Sunday of the race weekend.

During this exhilarating event, high school engineering students from Hawthorne High School had the unique opportunity to gain firsthand experiences in the organized world of racing from the inner workings of the track. Partnering with the Historic Motor Sports Association, the students delved into the operational aspects of racing, working alongside Technical Inspectors to ensure the safety and readiness of the historic cars on the track.

New Board Member Appointed

The CVUHSD Board of Education selected Ms. Nohemi Ramirez to fill the board vacancy for Trustee Area 3. Ms. Ramirez is a Leuzinger High School graduate and the proud parent of a Lawndale Cardinal. She is an active member of the community. Parent representation on the Board will be a valuable asset to the District and we look forward to having her input in the District decision making process. Congrats Trustee Ramirez, welcome to the team!

California Pivotal Practice Award

Our District and each of our schools have been named recipients of the California Pivotal Practice Award Program by the California Department of Education. This program was designed to celebrate districts and schools that implemented an innovative practice during the 2020–21 school year, when California required schools to offer distance learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We were recognized for the following:

1st Annual CVUHSD E-Sports Championship

Congrats to Leuzinger High School, the first ever CVUHSD E-Sports Champs!!! The Olympians went undefeated both days of the tournament! Great job Hawthorne, Lawndale and Lloyde High Schools, they put up a good fight! Congratulations to all students for making history by competing in the first CVUHSD E-Sports Championship! A HUGE thank you to our IT department who worked tirelessly to make this event happen, it looked AMAZING. And thank you to MCA Productions for covering the event, they did awesome and made a great highlight video!

HBCU Caravan

CVUHSD hosted the HBCU Caravan at Hawthorne, Lawndale and Leuzinger High Schools. The event was huge success with nearly a thousand seniors in attendance. Hundreds were accepted on the spot, and hundreds of thousands of dollars were awarded in scholarships. Some juniors were even able attend and accepted to college before their senior year!
